You check your blind spot and wince. You wake up with your neck "stuck." By mid-afternoon at the computer, tension has climbed from your shoulders up into the base of your skull. Neck pain is easy to brush off, until it starts affecting your sleep, your driving, and your patience.

Let's look at what might be behind it, and how we can help.

What's going on?

Your neck is a small structure with a big job. Seven small vertebrae hold up your head (roughly 10–12 pounds), protect your spinal cord, and house nerves that travel to your shoulders, arms, and hands.

Common contributors include:

  • Posture: hours looking down at phones, laptops, or paperwork
  • Joint stiffness in the neck or upper back
  • Muscle tension, often linked to stress or sleep position
  • Old injuries, including past car accidents (see our Whiplash page)
  • Nerve irritation, which can show up as tingling or pain into the arm

Neck pain also often travels with headaches and shoulder tension. That's why we look at the whole picture.

How we help at Gilmore Chiropractic

Your plan may include:

  • Gentle chiropractic adjustments to help restore neck and upper-back motion
  • Massage therapy to help ease muscle tension and support recovery
  • Shockwave therapy when soft-tissue irritation may be involved
  • Functional neurology with Dr. Matthews, especially helpful to look at when neck issues come with dizziness, balance changes, or headaches
  • Acupuncture with Dr. Funk
  • Vertebral decompression / cervical traction when nerve pressure may be involved
  • Soft tissue work, stretching, and posture coaching you can use at your desk and at home

What to expect at your first visit

  1. We listen. How it started, what aggravates it, and whether symptoms travel into your arm or head.
  2. We examine. Range of motion, posture, orthopedic and neurological checks.
  3. We explain. What we found, what it likely means, and your options.
  4. We plan together, with simple things you can start doing today.
