Yet another reason to love Italy! According to the Italian Institute of Statistics (ISTAT), the number of centenarians in Italy is growing despite the pandemic impact. The report, which looked at data between 2009 and 2021, found that while Italy had the second highest death rate in Europe after the UK during the pandemic, the centenarian population continued to grow. In fact, the study showed that during that time the number of Italians aged 100 and older has increased from 10,000 to 17,000. The number of 105 year olds and older has more than doubled from 472 to 1, 1000. In both cases, the majority are women.

Italy is home to one of the Blue Zones, Sardinia. However, the entire country appears to be an Orange Zone with Italians living their 100:100 all across the country. At The 100 Year Lifestyle we have long said that you don’t have to live in a Blue Zone to live your best, longest life. You can create your own 100 Year Lifestyle Orange Zone wherever you are. The fact is, wherever you live on the planet, you just survived a pandemic. And you are the stronger for it. People of all ages, including centenarians, survived the pandemic. Many of them survived  just by trusting their body’s innate intelligence, proving that you can be a least vulnerable person at any age.
